They do not simply concentrate on treating the problem area but also any area that may contribute to the pain. For example, if you complain of knee pain, the manual osteopath will assess the function of the knee and also look for any imbalance within the body or structure that maybe the result or cause.

Can Manual Osteopaths use other modalities to treat?

Although Osteopathy techniques are base on “manual” principles,  practitioners can use other modalities to provide treatment, such as: Ultrasound Therapy, Shockwave Therapy, Decompression Traction Therapy.

Osteopathy is a form of drug free  manual therapy which uses gentle, hands-on techniques to restore structural alignment of the body with the aim to improve function and decrease pain. Based on the Osteopathic Philosophy principles founded by Dr. A.T. Still in 1874, Manual Osteopaths assess and treat the body as a whole because symptoms may show up in different parts of the body from where the problem actually is. In Ontario, Osteopathy Practitioners are known as “Manual Osteopath” or “Osteopathic Manual Practitioner” under National Occupation Classifications (NOC #3232).
